We’re replacing the existing Blackwater health care facility with a new modular design. The new design and other upgrades will improve clinical flow.

The proposed works include:

  • Build a new modular facility
  • Upgrade our information and communications technology
  • Network redundancy for critical infrastructure services

The new Multipurpose Health Service is part of the Queensland Government’s more than $1 billion Building Rural and Remote Health Program. The project is targeting completion in early 2025.

Timeline

Start date: Mid 2023, Modular construction commencement at Yatala
Main site construction starts: February 2024
Practical completion: early 2025, weather and building conditions permitting.

Community information sessions were held in August 2023 to provide updates, timelines, and overview on the project. Community and staff chose the colour scheme for the build, nominating blue tones.

We intend to incorporate a range of local artwork, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artwork, in the facility. We have started consultation for local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artwork. We will include homely touches and finishes to the inside of the build.
