Biloela Hospital has reached an exciting milestone with the official opening of new staff accommodation, marking a significant step in supporting healthcare workers and strengthening local health services.
The new accommodation was officially opened yesterday, with staff expected to start moving in before the end of month. The official opening celebrated the successful delivery of the project, made possible through a strong partnership between Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service, Health Infrastructure Queensland, Saltair Modular, Forge Solutions and QBuild.
A traditional welcome to country and smoking ceremony was conducted by representatives from the Gaangalu Nation People to mark the occasion followed by a lunch enjoyed by staff and representatives from the community.
The new accommodation will play a vital role in attracting and retaining skilled healthcare professionals to Biloela, helping to address local housing shortages and ensuring staff have access to quality living spaces close to their workplace.
It provides a point of difference when promoting Biloela Hospital as a great place to work, with comfortable and modern facilities right on-site with easy access.
Central Queensland Health Chief Executive Lisa Blackler says the new accommodation is part of a broader suite of improvements at Biloela Hospital.
“Recent upgrades include accelerated construction works to the existing operating theatre and the refurbishment of the birthing suite—important early steps towards bringing back birthing services,” Ms Blackler said.
Once staff have moved into the new units, the existing accommodation block will be decommissioned and demolished, paving the way for future redevelopment opportunities at the hospital.
The units are modern, purpose-built modular homes designed to provide comfortable, secure, and convenient living spaces for hospital staff. They consist of 12 bedrooms, made up of three one-bedroom units and three three-bedroom units. Each unit features an undercover car park, ramp accessibility, internet access, an outdoor clothesline and kitchen and laundry facilities.
