Summary
Construction is under way on Level 3 at Rockhampton Hospital as work progresses to deliver the new Cardiac Hybrid Theatre, an important infrastructure investment for Central Queensland.
Demolition and enabling works are currently taking place to prepare the space for construction.
Recently, senior leadership attended the site alongside the project team and contractors to view progress and inspect the layout of the future theatre.
Rockhampton Hospital General Manager Brenton Simpson said the project was progressing as planned and thanked staff and patients for their cooperation.
“This is a significant redevelopment within an operational hospital,” Mr Simpson said.
“We appreciate the patience and professionalism of our staff and the understanding shown by patients and visitors as we deliver this important project for the community.”
The Cardiac Hybrid Theatre remains on track for completion later this year and will support the delivery of enhanced cardiac services locally.
Once complete, the theatre will bring together a fully equipped cardiac operating theatre with advanced imaging technology, supporting a broader range of surgical and interventional cardiac procedures within a single space and enabling more patients to receive care closer to home.
Clinical Director of Cardiology Dr Sam Sidharta said the new facility would also support the expansion of cardiac services and specialist roles at Rockhampton Hospital.
“The Cardiac Hybrid Theatre will allow us to deliver more advanced procedures locally and continue to grow our cardiac services to meet the needs of our community,” Dr Sidharta said.
“It also creates opportunities to recruit and develop a skilled multidisciplinary workforce, including cardiologists, nurses, cardiac physiologists and allied health professionals.”
The expansion of services is expected to strengthen Rockhampton Hospital’s role as a regional referral centre for cardiac care, while supporting sustainable workforce growth across Central Queensland.
Over the following months, we will be advertising roles for cleaners, administration, cardiac physiologists, nurses, doctors and more.
