Summary
The $92 million expansion of the Rockhampton Adult Mental Health Inpatient Unit has reached another milestone, on track for a 2026 opening.
The new stand-alone state-of-the-art 32 bed facility will provide vital inpatient care to improve the health and wellbeing of the community.
A major concrete pour this week signals the start of the next phase of construction.
The state-of-the-art facility will ensure people across Central and Central West Queensland can receive critical inpatient mental healthcare close to home.
Construction work has commenced on a fully enclosed link bridge connecting the new facility to the existing hospital.
Central Queensland Health Chief Executive Lisa Blackler said the modern, purpose-built unit was designed for the future.
“We’re working with lived-experience consumers and carer groups to ensure we’re designing this space with people in mind to include new innovations such as the indoor gardens that offer moments of calm, to upgraded systems that ensure comfort and efficiency,” she said.
“This will create a welcoming environment not just for consumers, but also visitors and staff.”
