Central Queensland Health has welcomed the development of a new modular hospital for Gladstone, marking a significant step toward strengthening local healthcare services.

The purpose‑built facility will be constructed on the Gladstone Hospital campus and will deliver modern clinical spaces that support contemporary models of care while enabling long‑term planning for future infrastructure needs.

Central Queensland Health Chief Executive Lisa Blackler said the investment reflects a strong commitment to supporting the growing healthcare needs of the Gladstone community.

“This facility will ensure the community continues to access safe, high‑quality care in environments designed for modern healthcare delivery,” Lisa said.

“By providing contemporary patient spaces and improved areas for our staff, we are strengthening our ability to meet current demand while planning responsibly for the future of Gladstone Hospital.”

The modular hospital will increase clinical capacity and help address challenges associated with ageing infrastructure by creating more functional and flexible spaces for care.

The new facility will include:

  • 40 inpatient beds, including palliative care, bariatric and isolation rooms
  • A five‑bed high dependency unit
  • Six renal dialysis chairs
  • Staff areas, administration spaces, family lounges and a rehabilitation gym
  • Space for further expansion.

Located adjacent to the West Wing (former Mater Hospital), the new building will connect directly to the existing Gladstone Hospital. Any future changes will be carefully planned and communicated in collaboration with staff and the community.

Gladstone Hospital General Manager Anita Pierantozzi said the investment will provide a significant boost to local services.

“This development strengthens our ability to deliver high‑quality care in modern facilities while long‑term planning continues,” Anita said.

“We will work closely with teams across the hospital and keep the community informed as the project progresses.”

Once completed, the modular hospital will provide more than 2,500 square metres of additional clinical space. Construction is expected to be finished by mid‑2027.
