If you’re looking for a rewarding medical career where your skills make a real difference, Central Queensland Health offers outstanding opportunities for Rural Generalists. Here, you can practice at your full scope, contribute to innovation in rural medicine and enjoy a lifestyle that’s as fulfilling as your work.
Practice at your full scope
At Central Queensland Health, Rural Generalists are empowered to work to the top of their scope across Anaesthetics, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Palliative Care, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology. You’ll join a team that trusts and supports you to deliver advanced, community-based care while being backed by experienced clinical leaders.
Our Rural Generalists are known for their innovation and impact:
- Doctor Andrew Scott introduced Endoscopist-Directed Nurse-Administered Propofol Sedation (EDNAPS).
- Doctor Shauna Taylor returned to Central Queensland to provide anaesthetic services to a community she loves.
- Doctor Natalia Anderson was recognised for her award-winning work in Palliative Care.
Be inspired by a legacy of leadership
Central Queensland Health has shaped some of Queensland’s most influential rural doctors, including former ACRRM Presidents Doctor Alan (Bruce) Chater and Doctor Ewen McPhee. Our doctors have received prestigious awards such as:
- ACRRM Queensland Rural Generalist of the Year
- RDAQ Denis Lennox Medal for Outstanding Rural Registrar
- AMA Queensland Gold Medal
When you join us, you’re becoming part of a health service that has played a key role in shaping the Rural Generalist Pathway in Queensland.
Advance your career with AST opportunities
We provide diverse Advanced Skills Training (AST) and structured career pathways to help you progress. Train in Rockhampton or Gladstone, then apply your skills locally or move rurally to services in Biloela, Emerald or Yeppoon.
With only around 12% of QARTS applicants accepted into Anaesthetics training statewide, Central Queensland Health offers a supported and fast-tracked pathway for developing advanced anaesthetic skills.
Already based in Cantral Queensland? You don’t need to relocate to progress – we’ll support your growth right where you are.
Innovate to improve access to care
Our Rural Generalists are leading new models of care that improve access and outcomes for local communities. From the EDNAPS program to expanded palliative and anaesthetic services, our teams are reducing the need for patients to travel long distances.
There are exciting opportunities for experienced Rural Generalists with AST in Obstetrics & Gynaecology to contribute to the re-establishment of birthing services at Biloela Hospital – a chance to make a lasting impact for local families.
