Summary
Rockhampton Hospital has reached a significant milestone in the development of its state-of-the-art Cardiac Hybrid Theatre, with the Eye Clinic and several Allied Health services successfully relocating to newly refurbished spaces.
Brenton Simpson, General Manager Rockhampton, Capricorn Coast and Mount Morgan, said the Ophthalmology service has moved from Level 5 to Level 1 of the hospital. The new clinic offers improved accessibility and a more comfortable environment for patients.
“This purpose-built clinic offers a more welcoming and accessible environment for our patients,” Mr Simpson said. “It’s also been incredibly well received by our staff, who are enjoying the improved layout, natural light, and modern facilities.”
Phone numbers remain the same, and signage is in place to help patients find their way.
“This new space is great for our patients, with a purpose-built clinic now open providing a more comfortable environment with easy access on the first floor.”
Several Allied Health services—including occupational therapy, speech pathology, nutrition and dietetics, and the lymphedema clinic—have transitioned into a refreshed area on Level 6.
The vacated Level 5 will now undergo transformation into the new Cardiac Inpatient Unit, which will feature six additional beds, doubling the unit’s capacity to 12.
Recruitment is underway to build a skilled workforce to support the expanded cardiac services. The process has already commenced with the recruitment for an inaugural of a Nurse Unit Manager for the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory, with further key roles to be advertised in the coming months.
The $28.5 million Cardiac Hybrid Theatre project will deliver advanced cardiac care to Central Queenslanders, including interventional procedures such as coronary angiograms, stent placements, and pacemaker implantations—bringing life-saving services closer to home.
