If you're looking for a career that fast-tracks your development, supports your lifestyle, and gives you unmatched clinical exposure, Central Queensland is the place to be.
Our Rural Generalist pathway offers more than just training – it offers opportunity, flexibility, and fulfilment in both your personal and professional life. But don’t just take our word for it, hear from doctors who’ve experienced it firsthand.
Doctor Cheryl: “The best of both work and life.”

After joining as an intern in 2024, Doctor Cheryl is now a Junior House Officer in Rockhampton Hospital’s Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department.
“I was unsure about moving to Central Queensland at first, but I quickly settled in, bought a house, fell in love, and I’m now starting a family.”
Cheryl says the hands-on experience and consultant support helped her build clinical skills fast.
“In Central Queensland, you get to know the whole team. From day one, I had a close working relationship with the consultants.”
And when it comes to lifestyle?
“The team do everything to ensure you get your allocation preferences and accommodate requests for weekends off. It truly feels as though we have the best of both work and life.”
Doctor Nathan: “I fast-tracked my career in Rockhampton.”

Doctor Nathan began his journey in 2022 and is now a Senior Medical Officer in Anaesthetics, working across Rockhampton and Capricorn Coast Hospitals.
“You get to learn more here than in Brisbane. The Anaesthetic Department is a supportive learning environment.”
Being able to tailor his training pathway was a game-changer.
“I essentially got every term I wanted in the past three years.”
Nathan encourages doctors to consider Rockhampton if they want to avoid long delays in career progression.
“Come to Rockhampton to fast-track your career by getting onto training early and getting the jobs you want, rather than delaying for years.”
Doctor Ryan: “Unmatched clinical experience.”

Doctor Ryan moved to Rockhampton in 2023 for his intern year and quickly progressed to a Principal House Officer in Anaesthetics.
“They told me I’d get much better clinical experience in Rocky than anywhere else – and it’s definitely been that way.”
He highlights the unique benefits of regional training:
“You have one-on-one time with consultants, mentorship from specialists, and you’re supported to learn in a clinical environment, rather than from a book.”
Plus, the region’s lifestyle sealed the deal.
“It’s a better work-life balance in Central Queensland. There are lots of social activities and sporting clubs, and you get the best of the beach and the bush.”
