We’re building a new youth mental health step up, step down service.
This service will provide short-term, for up to 28 days, mental health treatment and support for young people aged 16 to 21, in a residential-like facility. The new facility will deliver easier access to mental health care for young people across the region.
This service will help reduce the likelihood of admission to an acute mental health inpatient unit (“step up”) and support earlier discharge from acute care (“step down”). This ensures a smoother transition for young people returning to home, school, work and community life.
The goal of the service is to provide a supportive environment where young people can focus on recovery, strengthen daily living skills, and stay connected with family, friends and their community.
This project is part of the Queensland Government’s Hospital Rescue Plan.
