Central Queensland Health has celebrated another milestone for Gladstone’s healthcare future, with early works starting for the region’s new modular hospital.
The purpose‑built facility will deliver modern, flexible clinical spaces designed for today’s models of care and for the region’s future growth. The project marks a significant investment in expanding services and improving patient experience across the community.
Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service Chief Executive Lisa Blackler said the modular hospital represented a significant step forward for the Gladstone community.
“This investment ensures we can meet the community’s needs now, while giving us the flexibility to plan the most appropriate long‑term infrastructure solution for Gladstone. It’s about delivering safe, contemporary care today and building capacity for the future,” Lisa said.
When completed in mid‑2027, The purpose-built facility will deliver modern, flexible clinical spaces, including inpatient, high dependency and renal units, plus administration and staff areas, family lounges and a rehabilitation gym.
Situated next to the West Wing (the former Mater Hospital), the modular hospital will directly connect to the existing Gladstone Hospital, creating an efficient clinical environment. Any future changes to the campus will be thoughtfully planned and shared with staff and the wider community.
Once completed, the modular hospital will provide more than 2,500 square metres of additional clinical space. This project supports contemporary models of care while enabling long-term planning for future infrastructure needs.
Gladstone Hospital General Manager Anita Pierantozzi said the new facility would make a meaningful difference for patients and staff.
“The additional beds, modern clinical spaces and purpose‑built treatment areas will strengthen the care we provide every day. This project supports a better experience for patients and a better working environment for our teams, ensuring Gladstone is well‑positioned for future growth,” Anita said.
Meanwhile, construction continues to progress on the Women and Family Centre within the West Wing. This refreshed space will enhance maternity, newborn and family‑focused services. The redevelopment remains on track for completion this year, promising families access to modern, welcoming facilities close to home.
