New women and family centre
We’re upgrading Gladstone Hospital’s West Wing with a new women and family centre. It brings together maternity and paediatric services to help us give better care to women, children, and families in Central Queensland.
The upgrades will include:
- 12 single maternity rooms with ensuites
- 2 new birthing rooms
- 2 early labour or induction suites
- a nursery for newborns
- 8 single paediatric rooms with ensuites.
The new rooms will offer more comfort and privacy. They’ll also help us support women in labour to stay in their own rooms longer.
The birth suite and operating theatre will both be in the centre, to improve the flow of care.
We’ve already started working on some small upgrades to the west wing building to get ready for the new centre.
Timeline
- Start date: Late-2025, early works begin.
- Finish date: 2026, weather and building conditions permitting.

Gladstone modular hospital project
We’re building a new modular hospital at Gladstone.
It will be built on the Gladstone Hospital campus next to the West Wing and connected to the existing hospital.
It will include:
- 40 inpatient beds, including palliative care, bariatric and isolation rooms
- 6 renal dialysis chairs
- 5 bed High Dependency Unit
- staff areas, administration spaces, family lounges and a rehabilitation gym
- space for further expansion.
The facility will deliver more than 2,500m² of modern clinical space.

- Start date: 2026
- Finish date: 2027, weather and building conditions permitting.
