Summary
Congratulations to Central Queensland Health nurse Cassie who has qualified as a Credentialled Diabetes Educator with the Australian Diabetes Educators Association.
Cassie has been a Clinical Nurse in the Rockhampton Hospital Paediatric Unit for five years, and she has spent the past two years working on her credentials.
This includes completion of her graduate certificate in diabetes education, and 1000 hours of experience in diabetes education, research and development.
She is proud to have enhanced her skills and be advancing her career, passing her knowledge onto young patients.
Cassie has always had a passion for paediatrics, and diabetes.
“I’ve always been drawn to those two areas and think they’re the ones we can help the most. Setting young patients and their families up with good education early on in their diabetes diagnosis helps them succeed and have a long and happy life with less diabetes-related complications down the track.”
She recently helped support the first commencement of an insulin pump service at Rockhampton, with support from Queensland Children’s Hospital staff.
Insulin pumps are life-changing for people living with diabetes, supporting their care of a complex chronic condition, meaning less injections, optimising blood glucose levels, reducing adverse symptoms and chronic disease later in life.
“Caring for a child with diabetes is quite complex, and insulin pumps take away a lot of that pressure.”
